History of Wilson & Wilson
The Wilson family has owned and operated Wilson & Wilson since it was founded in 1974. The firm began when founding member, Attorney John P. Wilson, and another attorney formed an association in White River Township, just outside of the city limits of Greenwood, Indiana. This association existed until March of 1977 when the second attorney left the firm to pursue other opportunities within the city limits of Greenwood.
Mr. Wilson continued to operate the firm, and was soon joined by Attorney William E. Limeberry, and still later by Attorney Richard L. Tandy. This association was known as Wilson, Limeberry & Tandy, and it existed until the mid-1990's when Mr. Limeberry and Mr. Tandy left the association to pursue other opportunities in the practice of law.
Mr. Wilson was then joined by Attorney James R. Green and Attorney M. Carolyn Cecere, to form the association of Wilson, Green, and Cecere. Wilson, Green, and Cecere existed until 2011, when Mr. Green and Mrs. Cecere both retired from the practice of law. Mrs. M. Carolyn Cecere remains “of counsel” with the firm. In May of 2011, Mr. Wilson was joined by his daughter, Attorney Jennifer D. Wilson, to form the current association of Wilson & Wilson.
The firm in its’ current composition is a general practice firm, with an emphasis on the following areas of law:
- Criminal Defense, including extensive felony trial work.
- Domestic relations, including child support, paternity, custody, and parenting time issues.
- Guardianships and adoptions.
- Estate planning, including wills, trusts, POA, living will, and appointment of healthcare representatives.
- Estate administration, including estate litigation, will contests, and general estate administration and distribution.
- Equine law.
- Specialized driving privileges, also known as hardship licenses.
- Expungement or sealing of criminal records.
Mrs. Wilson Reagan and Mr. Wilson work as a team on several cases, both in and out of the courtroom. The most notable cases include a November 2014 jury trial for felony rape in Marion County and a March 2016 jury trial for felony murder in Johnson County. Most recently, the Wilsons handled a January 2020 jury trial for a 2006 murder in which the defense of insanity was alleged. The jury came back with a verdict for guilty but mentally ill.
Wilson & Wilson has been somewhat progressive in an often traditionally conservative industry. It was the first firm in Johnson County, Indiana to employ a female attorney, and the first firm to use an all electronic law library. Finally, it is also believed to be one of the first, if not the first, Johnson County law firm to use a computer in the courtroom during a murder jury trial.
